Comprehensive support for R&D activities

Building an environment where business meets science, we offer comprehensive support for research and development activities, whether you need ready-to-use solutions or want to develop and implement your own. We provide you with assistance at almost every stage of your research.

In realising this, we are forming R&D consortia.  Using our extensive networking network, we help establish contacts between the scientific and business communities, both nationally and internationally. We are integrating actors who, by combining their potentials, are likely to succeed.

We are also involved in R&D projects ourselves.  Our technological facilities, i.e. laboratories and machine rooms, equipped with, among other things, a supercritical extractor, electropasteuriser or spray dryer, provide almost unlimited possibilities for turning innovative ideas, into innovative solutions – services, technologies and products.

We strive to match processes and products to industrial and market realities as closely as possible. We support our customers in finding the right solution for them. We advise them on which technologies to use and, when necessary, prepare technology studies. We also undertake process optimisation or participation in ongoing projects at WPT.

It is worth mentioning that we also advise on assumption verification and up-scaling work. In addition, we provide support in the process of acquiring customers interested in new technological solutions, at various stages of their development. From the presentation of research results, to the sale of know-how or technologies during their optimisation, to the sale of finished products, services and technologies. In this way, we constantly bring the two worlds of business and science together.

Analyses and standard studies

WPT offers a range of analyses and standardised tests. The catalogue of studies is not closed, and we are also happy to undertake non-standard analyses to suit the needs and requirements of our clients. Analyses and research are carried out in the modern laboratories and prototyping facilities of the Wrocław Technology Park, i.e:

  • Chemical and Bioengineering Laboratories Unit
  • Physical Properties Laboratory Unit
  • Electronic and Energy Laboratory Unit
  • IT Laboratory Unit
  • Non-destructive testing laboratory
  • Mechanical Laboratory

We take an individual approach to each order – the pricing of the analysis depends on the type of test and the number of samples. We encourage you to take a look at our comprehensive range of analysis and standard studies.

At Chemical and Bioengineering Laboratories Unit we conduct:

  • microbiological analyses (e.g. of food, feed, cosmetics, household chemicals)
  • chemical indications of food components (e.g. fatty acids, vitamins, polyphenols)
  • qualitative and quantitative analyses by gas and liquid chromatography (e.g. identification of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and drug precursors),
  • determination of physico-chemical properties (e.g. determination of wetting angle, measurement of pH, viscosity, conductivity, surface tension).
  • research and services in the field of protein production, macromolecular analysis, molecular biology,
  • spectroscopic analyses (measurement of elemental content by ICP-OES and ICP-TOF-MS methods).

At Physical Properties Laboratory Unit it is possible to:

  • produce scans allowing 3D visualisation of the internal structure and to carry out metrological tests (comparison with CAD models) of biological, composite and metallic objects weighing between 0.1 g and 50 kg,
  • Determine the chemical composition of metals and alloys,
  • conduct microscopic analysis of the surface of any sample with the possibility of EDS microanalyses of chemical composition,
  • carry out static and dynamic strength testing of various materials with the possibility of conducting tests at reduced and increased temperatures,
  • carry out hardness and microhardness tests.

Electronic and Energy Laboratory Unit allows:

  • carrying out tests on the thermal insulation of building partitions and the condition of the thermal insulation of industrial installations and equipment,
  • carrying out diagnostics on electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment as well as piping and components of heating and air-conditioning systems.

IT Laboratory Unit provides:

  • hosting services, which make services and applications available on WPT servers,
  • colocation services, i.e. renting space on which to place our customers’ servers,
  • scanning and large-format printing services.

The offer of the Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory is extremely comprehensive. The equipment available there – a 6/9 MeV linear electron accelerator enables:

  • carrying out tests on objects of considerable thickness to detect internal defects and reveal the internal structure (arrangement of components) of complex non-separable structures,
  • conducting defectoscopy examinations,
  • sterilisation of medical devices,
  • modification of the structure of polymers,
  • modification of the parameters of semiconductors and high-temperature superconductors using a high-energy electron beam.

It is also worth noting that research and development work is carried out within the laboratory using the aforementioned electron accelerator with both photon (X-ray) and electron beams.

The Mechanical Laboratory carries out a range of metal machining processes including:

  • water jet cutting of materials,
  • guillotine cutting of plates up to 8mm thick and 3m wide
  • rolling of plates up to 8mm thick and 3m wide
  • bending on a 3m long sheet metal press brake,
  • coiling of metal profiles on a hydraulic coiler.

In addition, the laboratory offers a wide range of drilling and grinding services.

The Research and Development Laboratory of the Experimental Plant also provides analysis services:

  • Particle size distribution tests using sieve analysis
  • Tests of bulk density of powders and compacted density /according to FP (method 1)
  • Tests on the disintegration time of tablets and capsules /according to FP (type A and B apparatus)
  • Abrasion tests / abrasion resistance of uncoated tablets /according to FP
  • Tests of hardness/crushing resistance of tablets/according to FP
  • Tests of mass uniformity of single-dose preparations /according to FP

R&D activities

Research and development activities and analyses are among the core elements forming the essence of the Wrocław Technology Park’s activities. For this reason, WPT has numerous and diverse instruments dedicated to companies at different stages of development – both young, start-ups and established companies. When you start working with us, you can count on our support at every stage of your project: we help those who expect ready-made solutions to bring their innovative ideas to life, as well as those who are just looking for their own path to realisation.

We focus on comprehensive support, as the success of our clients, residents and partners is our top priority. Among other things, WPT residents are given access to an extensive, highly specialised infrastructure that allows them to conduct a range of studies, among other standard analyses, and to develop new analytical methods and processes. We support companies based on our technological and business know-how. Thanks to our long-standing presence in the market and our reputation in the community, we use the potential of our networking between business and science for the benefit of companies.

We invite producers of food and dietary supplements who have an idea for a new product, but need support in creating a recipe, to our Research and Development Laboratory of the Experimental Plant. Our specialists will help you design new products and processes and meet the appropriate quality requirements specified in legal regulations.

The Research and Development Laboratory cooperates closely with the Experimental Plant, where, based on the developed recipe, a given technology can be implemented for production on a larger scale.

Our research facilities carry out:

  • chemical extraction (e.g. ethanol, acetone);
  • extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide (so-called ‘green chemistry’);
  • purification by separation of liquid/solid systems – product filtration;
  • purification by separation of liquid/liquid systems – product distillation;
  • freeze-drying and spray drying;
  • creating individual recipes depending on the needs of our customers.

We approach each client individually, the pricing of the service depends on the type of research and required technical resources.

Please contact us for detailed information about our capabilities. We are sure that thanks to our Research and Development Laboratory you will be able to develop your ideas.

Development of analytical methods and technologies

In cooperation with and on behalf of our customers, we develop new technologies and analytical procedures and improve existing processes in various fields, including chemistry and biotechnology. We are constantly collaborating with experts from various sectors, including analytical chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, organic chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and environmental analysis.

The results of projects we have already carried out include:

  • development of washing and cleaning formulations (including the use of raw materials of natural origin),
  • development of a method to detect and identify micro-organisms using PCR,
  • development of a methodology for the determination of vitamin K and B vitamins,
  • development of technology for the detection of allergens in cosmetic sprays using gas chromatography techniques,
  • development of a method for disinfecting flowing air in ventilation and air-conditioning systems using nanosilver colloid.

At WPT, we also offer our customers support in design work for, among other things, 3D modelling, design and thermal-strength calculations of low-temperature equipment using CAD software.

In addition, we make it possible to carry out R&D and implementation work using a high-energy (6 or 9 MeV) X-ray or electron beam emitted by an accelerator (LINAC). They make it possible, among other things, to study the effects of radiation on changes in the properties of materials (especially polymers, plastics) and on the durability and reliability of equipment dedicated to radiation exposure – testing.
